ABERNATHY - Lydia Ysassi Cuevas went to join our Lord April 17, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Robstown, Texas, to the late Dionicio and Cecelia Ysassi. She married Bobby Cuevas April 24, 1954, in Robstown.
Among her many passions in life, gardening was her joy, as she could make anything grow; in addition, bird watching and crocheting were also favorite past times.
Rosary service will be tonight at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Abernathy, Texas, at 7 p.m.
Lydia was preceded in death by a son, John Paul Cuevas.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; children, Baleriano Bob Cuevas and wife Linda of Frisco, Texas, Gloria Vincent and husband Kevin of Hillsboro, Ore., Rosa Sales and husband Dennis of Brownfield, Texas, Theresa Cuevas of Abernathy, Texas, Gilbert Cuevas and wife Sylvia of Lubbock, Texas, and Maria GiGi Cuevas, also of Lubbock; brothers and sisters, Ramon Ysassi., Rosa Alaniz, Maria Elena Cantu, Carlos Ysassi, Cecilia Ybarra, Dionicio Ysassi III, all of Robstown, Texas, Inez Bocanegra, Ricardo Ysassi, Esther Saenz of Corpus Christi, Texas, Reynaldo Ysassi, and Gloria Ysassi of San Antonio Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Isidore Catholic Church Friday at 2 p.m. with Father Jacob Puthuparambil officiating. Interment will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
The family would like to thank the wonderful aides at the Serendipity House for their compassionate care and comfort provided during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the West Texas Parkinsonism Society. God put his arms around her and whispered, Come with me.
