Services for Ernestine Kennedy, 76, of Abernathy, TX will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 8, 2013, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Mrs. Kennedy died at her home Tuesday, March 5, 2013.
She was born January 5, 1937 in Lamesa, TX and married Max Kennedy, June 1, 1957 in Happy, TX. They moved to Abernathy in 1969 from Matador, TX. She was employed with the Abernathy ISD as the Elementary and High School librarian retiring in 1985. In 1997 she began substitute teaching for the Hale Center ISD until 2001. She was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church and loved to paint, do crafts, read and was an outstanding cook. What brought her the most pleasure was reading to the elementary children as their librarian.
She was preceded in death by a son, Randy Wane Kennedy in 1972 and a brother, Gerald McCasland in 2007 and her parents Buford and Ruby (Tyra) McCasland. She is survived by her husband, Max Kennedy of Abernathy, a son, David Kennedy and wife Rita of Ozona, TX and 3 grandchildren, Randy Wayne Kennedy, David Ryan Kennedy and Elizabeth Renea Kennedy.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, 411 7th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311 or the American Heart Association.
