J.L. (Jack) Clifton, 75, of Dumas died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, in the Dumas hospital. Mr. Clifton was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Walter Needham and lived in the county as a young man.
Mr. Clifton was born at Malvern, Arkansas March 2, 1908, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Clifton and came with his family to the Quail area in 1933. He was married here to Miss Effie Lavina Clifton, July 11, 1929.
They lived in Boise City a short time before moving to Dumas in 1972.
Mr. Clifton lived in Quail, Lillie, Cross Roads communities and at Wellington.
At one time he operated an ice route in the county, delivering ice in areas without electricity to operate the present type of refrigeration.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Marvin Clifton of Dumas; and Sammie Weldon Clifton of Exeter, RI; four sisters, Mrs. Zettie Meggs of Pismo Beach, CA, Mrs. Gathie Cullum of Fort Worth, Mrs. Annie Richie of Perryton and Mrs. Blanche Foster of Azle; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
