Bernabe G. Mendoza was born on June 11, 1927 in Mission, Texas to Antonio and Guadalupe (Gutierrez) Mendoza. He peacefully passed into the waiting arms of Jesus on Nov. 25, 2013. He was surrounded by his family.
He married the love of his life, the late Francisa Ramos Mendoza, in December of 1951 in Lubbock. They made Abernathy, Texas their home.
He worked as a farmer in the Abernathy and Shallowater area for many years until his retirement. He faithfully served his county while enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1953. He experienced combat in the Korean Conflict.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday November 27, 2013 at St. Isisodore Catholic Church with Father Jacob Puthuparambil officiating. Interment will follow at the Abernathy Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pray the Rosary this evening, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, 407 N. University Ave., Lubbock, TX 79415.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Francisa R. Mendoza, in March of 1976; and his brother, Julian Mendoza.
