Services for Maxine Settle, 78, of Abernathy, TX. were held at 2:00 pm Friday in the Church of Christ with David Bennett and Rev. John Lowrie officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mrs. Settle died Wednesday, September 8, 2004, in Lubbock, TX.

She was born July 8, 1926, in Collinsville, TX. She married W. T. Settle, October 28, 1944 in Abernathy. She was a longtime Abernathy resident and was a member of the Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also was a World Bible School Correspondence Teacher for many years.

She is survived by her husband, W. T. Settle of Abernathy, TX, 1 son, Jerry and his wife Sharon Settle of Edmondson, TX, and a daughter, Reta and her husband Clay Mimms of Lazbuddie, TX. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jeff Settle, Jody Settle and his wife Connie, Angie Settle, Blake Mimms and his wife Amber, Kati Mimms, Brady Mimms and Brett Mimms and 3 great granddaughters, Ashley, Laurel and Haley.

Services for W. T. Settle, 99, of Abernathy, will be held at 10:00 am Monday, August 3, 2020, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Damon Pearce officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 4:30 pm until 6:00 pm, Sunday, August 2, 2020. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop Abernathy, TX. Mr. Settle died Thursday, July 30, 2020 in Lubbock on his 99th birthday.

He was born July 30, 1921 in Abernathy, TX to John and Mary Loyd (Givens) Settle, one of 12 children. He had lived in Plainview and Hale Center, TX before moving to Abernathy where he farmed in the area. W. T. attended Texas Tech. W.T. married Maxine Hooker October 28, 1944. He was an Abernathy Antelope sports fan, Member and Deacon of First Baptist Church. He was also a partner in Tuco Gin, member of Abernathy Lions Club, he was on the Coop Grain Board, and he served as a City Councilman for Abernathy. The Settle family was honored as the Farm Family of the Year two times over the years. He was also honored as Citizen of the Year by the Abernathy Chamber of Commerce. W.T. is preceded in death by his wife Maxine (Hooker) Settle September 8, 2004 and 11 siblings.

He is survived by son Jerry Settle and wife Sharon of Edmondson, TX daughter Reta Mimms and husband Clay of McAlister, NM seven grandchildren Jeff Settle and wife Jennifer, Jody Settle and wife Connie, Angie Bennett and husband Cody, Blake Mimms, Kati Mimms, Brady Mimms, Brett Mimms and wife Misty, 10 great grandchildren Ashley, Laurel, Haley, Andrew, Riley, Tanner, Steel, Danica, Carson Bryson and a sister-in-law Juanita Loyd.

The family suggests memorial be sent to the Abernathy Senior Citizens Center at 717 Ave. C, Abernathy, TX 79311 or the Abernathy Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 150, Abernathy, TX 79311. www.abellfuneralhome.com
