MISS ADA HENDERSON DIES HERE WEDNESDAY

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT BAPTIST CHURCH THURSDAY AFTERNOON

Miss Harriett Ada Henderson died at her home in Cameron Wednesday evening at 8:30 o'clock March 30, 1927 following a long period of declining health.
The end came to her peacefully surrounded by the members of the family and a few close friends and the physician Dr. Elbra Monroe.
She was born at Washington, Texas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stallworth Hernderson. She had been a resident of Cameron for many years, being a teacher in the public schools here, giving her life work to the teaching of the children, many of whom have reached manhood and womanhood and mourn her passing.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at four o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. E. S. Hutcherson, pastor, conducted the services. Dr. Lee R. Scarbrough, president of the Southwestern Baptist Seminary at Fort Worth, friend of the family and former pastor here assisted in the funeral service.
Cameron schools dismissed Thursday for the funeral out of respect for Miss Henderson who had been an honored member of the faculty for a number of years.
Active and honorary pall bearers were the present members of the school board and the past members of the board. The present members are: D. L. Kidd, president; B. P. Atkinson, Wm. Henderson, Dr. W. R. Newton, Mrs. W. O. Triggs, Mrs. George T. Moore and E. A. Wallace.
The Coleman - Eplen funeral home had charge of the funeral services with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The death of Miss Ada Henderson has brought universal sorrow to hundreds who knew and loved her here and over the state at large. By reason of her long residence here and her life work as a teacher in the schools she had endeared herself to many who feel keenly her death.
Miss Henderson is survived by her brother, T. S. Henderson of Cameron and a sister, Mrs. Alice Fowler of Brownwood, and nieces and nephews,children of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Henderson of Cameron. Misses Winnie and Katherine Henderson who had lived with her for a number of years.
In the family of which Miss Ada was one of the children, there were seven, three boys and four girls all of whom are dead except those noted above. Her brother the late Judge John Henderson was a confederate soldier in Hood's Texas Brigade. He lost an arm in the service of the South in Virginia. He was district judge here and later on the court of criminal appeals. Another brother, Sam A. Henderson was a lawyer and one time member of the legislature. Mrs Rhoades of Navasota and Mrs. Chandler of Anderson, sisters, have been dead for some time. Their children are survivors to mourn Miss Ada as are the children of the other families.
Out of respect to Miss Ada and the families the business houses were closed for the funeral Thursday.
