Dolly Brown Services for Dolly Brown, 96, of Slaton will be 11 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013, in Slaton's First Baptist Church with Dr. Cleve Kerby officiating. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery, under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Dolly was born on the family farm near Slaton on April 22, 1917. She passed from this life May 13, 2013. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, community leader, lifelong resident of Slaton, and in the class of 1937. She was a homemaker, gifted seamstress, lifelong member of First Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class. Dolly was the original director of the Slaton Senior Citizens Center, retiring when she was 80, and was elected a member of Texas First Silver Hair Legislature representing Lubbock County. She was a member of Slaton's Women Division of the Chamber of Commerce and was selected Slaton's Woman of the Year in 1985. She also wrote Spotlighting the Slaton Senior Citizens for the Slatonite newspaper, and was active in Slaton Little League and Babe Ruth League. Dolly was preceded in death by seven siblings, John Lee Wilson, Ethel Cain, Edna Boatright, Ed Caldwell, Carter Caldwell, Lulu Hancock and Dora Housour. Her survivors include her daughter, Jeanette Moore and husband Leon of Slaton; son, Jerry Burrell and wife Jeannie of Houston; along with grandchildren, Scott (Laura) and Brad (Staci) Moore, Jared and Jacy Burrell; and great-grandchildren Catherine, Hayden, Caroline, Bristol and Hazel Moore; sisters, Anna Belle Foerster of Lubbock and Dee Dee Mullins of Slaton.
