Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Andrew McQueen officiating. Burial will be in Stinnett Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger.

Alma Gertrude Baker Brown, the family's matriarch, passed away peacefully from the caring arms of her family and caregivers into the loving arms of her heavenly Father and her devoted husband, Max Willard, on Dec. 18, 2009. Alma was born July 30, 1913, in Maysville, Okla. Alma graduated from Lefors High School, where she was a figured basketball player. She married her school sweetheart, Max, on Dec. 27, 1933, in Wheeler. They celebrated their 65th anniversary before Max passed away on April 9, 1999. Alma had resided in Stinnett, had been a member of First Baptist Church for 56 years and worked at Jim's Grocery for 32 years.

Alma and Max loved to spend their summers at their cabin in Lake City, Colo. They also traveled extensively, including visits to Alaska, Hawaii and Tennessee, among others.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Max Drew Brown; her parents, Andrew Baker and Birdie Grace Sargent Baker; and her sister and best friend, Alta Brown.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Dozier and husband Bill and grandsons Lance and Dirk of Dallas; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Kay Witcher and husband Norman of Odessa and grandsons Rex Brown and wife Misty, Rip Brown and wife Rebecca, Ray Brown and wife Rachel and Reid Witcher; two great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Berkley Christian; two special nieces, Brenda Pospisil and husband Jimmie of Oklahoma City and Beverly Quisenberry and husband James of Plano; and numerous relatives and friends.

Alma also is survived by her very special family, Virginia Stowe and husband Tommy, who lovingly cared for her for the last five years of her life. Virginia was assisted by her daughter, Missy Jones, and husband Vernon and daughter Faith. For the last year, Virginia was supported by granddaughter Amy Kesner, who lovingly devoted many hours to Alma's care. The family also extends its gratitude to Hospice Care of the Southwest and to Deanya Lillard, Katti Shipley, Martha Johnson and the Rev. Darrell Burton for their dedication to our beloved matriarch.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7.

The family suggests memorials be to the church or a favorite charity.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Lance and Dirk Dozier, Rex, Rip and Ray Brown, and Reid Witcher.
