A two-vehicle accident north of Whitehouse Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Dan Thomas said.
Katy Bernice Gibson, of Whitehouse, was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mary Guthrie, shortly after the I:40 p.m. accident.
Ms. Gibson was northbound on Texas Highway 110, about a mile north of Whitehouse in a 1993 Mercury Sable, when she pulled to the right side of the road and attempted to make a U-turn.
Thomas said her car was struck by a 1992 Nissan pickup truck driven by Barry Daniel Crocker, 27, Tyler, who had been following her at a distance.
Thomas was transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler where he was treated and released, Nursing Supervisor Sharon Mapp said.
