*Obituary for E. E. “Pete”
Services for Elijah Elbert Tate Sr., 70, of 1018 Bowman, were at 2 p.m. today in the Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Minton Mortuary.

Mr. Tate died at 6 p.m. Monday in North Plains Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1906 in Barry County, Mo.

He was employed as an asbestos insulator and was a member of Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, six sons, one daughter, three sisters, two brothers, 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were H.B. Knoechney, Don Schaffer, James Hepler, Bob Klause, Kenneth Speegle, and Glen Felker.

Honorary pallbearers were T.C. Donnell, Leonard F. Gipson, and W.W. Hopkins.

Mintie Belle Tate Gipson, 77, Borger, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1995 in her home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gateway Baptist Church with the Rev. Tunis Schuurman, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Stinnett by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

A native of Wellington, she had been a Borger resident for 68 years. She was a housewife and a member of Gateway Baptist Church.

She married Leonard F. Gipson on Aug. 21, 1981 in Borger. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1993.

She was preceded in death by her husband E.E. "Pete" Tate in 1976, two sons, Jerry Don Tate in 1972 and Jimmie Day Sargent in 1992.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby N. Sargent and Elijah Tate, both of Stinnett; and Willie Tate of Borger; two stepsons, Jimmie Tate of Borger, and Elbert Tate of Fritch; a daughter, Kay Tolleson of Lubbock; four brothers, August Speegle of Borger; Pete Speegle, Lester Speegle and Dwight Speegle, all of Oklahoma; four sisters, Christine McCarty and Dorothy Tate, both of Borger; Pauline Webb of Amarillo, and Velma Newberry of Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 300 S. McGee, Borger.

The family will be staying at 1018 Bowman.
