STINNETT - A longtime Hutchinson County law enforcement officer died Tuesday.

H.L. Wilbanks, 75, who spent 35 years in law enforcement in Hutchinson County before retiring Jan. 1, 1993, died in his home in Stinnett.

Wilbanks was Stinnett Chief of Police from Aug. 1, 1959 to Aug. 15, 1963 before he returned to the position March 1, 1967 through Nov. 1, 1972.

He also served as a Hutchinson County Deputy Sheriff and jailer. He was appointed as an assistant in the probation department in 1971, and in 1973 he was appointed as chief probation officer. He also worked as a court bailiff before being elected constable.

Funeral services for Wilbanks will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Stinnett with the Rev. Orville Rogers, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Wilbanks will lie in state at Brown's Memorial Chapel in Stinnett.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery by Ed Brown & Sons Funeral Directors.

A native of Spearman, he had been a Stinnett resident for 41 years.

He married Dorothy Shuffield Aug. 29, 1985 in Stinnett.

Survivors include hie wife of the home; two sons, Sam Wilbanks of West Covina, Calif.; and Lanny Madden of Amarillo; three daughters, Sue Meyer of Dallas; Sonja Fourrier of Amarillo; and Sheryl Phillips of Austin; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The Hutchinson County Courthouse offices will close at noon Friday in honor of Wilbanks, a longtime employee and elected official.

STINNETT - Lorraine Wilbanks, 65, of 216 N. Wilhelm St. died Saturday in Austin.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery by Alexander Funeral Directors in Stinnett.

A native of Fergus Falls, Minn., she moved to Stinnett in 1952 from Spearman. She worked eight years in the Hutchinson County Treasurer's office and several years in the county probation department. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Eastern Star Lodge No. 347 in Stinnett.

Mrs. Wilbanks married her husband, H.L. July 10, 1946 in Amarillo.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Lanny E. Madden of Amarillo and Sammy Wilbanks of West Covina, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Sonja Fourrier of Amarillo, Mrs. Sue Meyer of Dallas, and Mrs. Sheryl Phillips of Austin; three brothers, Edward Larson of Falls Church, Va., Harold Larson of Waco and Marcus Larson of Spearman; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Louise Byrd of Arvada, Colo.

The family will be staying at 216 N. Wilhelm St.

Pallbearers will be Joe Barnett, Clarence Wright, Don Chisum, Veda Chisum, Joe Bryant, and H.D. "Teed" Pond.
