On Monday, December 15, 2014, Rose Marie was called to her eternal home in Heaven at the age of 82. Rose Marie was born October 22, 1932 in Borger, Texas to Newt and Mildred Beals. She graduated with honors from Borger High School in 1949. She attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. While at U.T., she met and married Charles L. Ballman who was completing his final year of law school.
Rose Marie was an elementary and middle school science teacher for 36 years. In 1982 she was one of thirteen science teachers in Texas selected by NASA to participate in mission STS-5, and observe the launch of the fifth flight of Space Shuttle Columbia. Another highlight of her career included recognition as Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 1996. Rose Marie was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Borger where she served as a Sunday school and adult Bible study teacher. In her later years, Rose Marie gathered information for the church monthly newsletter. She served on the Tri-City Concert Board of Directors and was an active member of Altrusa, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Borger Study Club.
Rose Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents, Mildred and Newt Beals, and sister, Lawanda Wagner. She is survived by her sons, Clay Ballman and wife Kandice of Borger, Charles Ballman and wife Nancy of Leander, and daughter Cathy and husband David Walther of Dallas; grandchildren, Lee Ballman of Austin, Conrad Ballman of Lubbock, Beth Ballman of Austin, Rachel Walther of Dallas, Cameron Ballman of Lubbock, Carolyn Walther of College Station, Chance Ballman of Lubbock, and Rob Ballman of Leander; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Emmit Koelle of Bedford, Texas; and seven nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ballman will lie in state of Brown’s Chapel of the Fountains in Borger on Friday December 19th from 8am to 8 pm. Family visitation will be Friday December 19th from 6pm-8pm. Services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Borger. A burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Directors.
