Graveside services for Lake “Harold” Stone 87, of Seminole will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 in the Gaines County Memorial Cemetery with Joe Stewart officiating, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole.

Harold passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020 in Seminole.

Harold was born to Early Richard and Melissa Bradford Stone on June 9, 1933. He was the 11th of 12 children born to the couple; having seven sons and five daughters. The family moved to Seminole in the early 1940’s where Harold grew up and attended Seminole schools. In April of 1954, at 21 years of age, Harold was drafted into the Army division of the United States Armed Forces. He served for two years as an Army Vehicle Mechanic in Germany. In 1956, he received his honorable discharge and returned home to Seminole in April of that same year. It was in Seminole that Harold met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Able. They married June 15, 1957 and lived their life together in Seminole for over 63 years. As a young man, Harold professed his faith in Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Seminole. After marrying, Harold and Carolyn continued in their faith and became active members, together with their sons, of South Seminole Baptist Church. Harold served as a deacon at South Seminole and was greatly involved with the youth ministry of the church. Many of his fondest memories and stories told were of those times with his family and church. Harold was never afraid, nor did he ever turn away from hard work. His hands told the story of his hard work...they were rough, big and strong. His early work years were spent working in the oil field and later with his brothers at Stone Drilling Company. Eventually, Harold secured a job with Eddins Walcher in Seminole, which he managed for over 17 years. After retiring from Eddins Walcher, Harold went to work for himself. He bought farmland east of Seminole and established Stone Pipe and Tank water well casing business. This business continues in the family today.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Early Richard and Melissa Bradford Stone; six brothers, JT, Richard, Johnny, Jack, Kenneth and Raymond Stone; five sisters, Viola Bollinger, Doris Pinnell, Glenda Benge Anderson, Elvira Upchurch and Mary Cozart.

Harold is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Stone; two sons, Mike Stone and wife Willie of Hobbs, NM and David Stone and wife Stephanie of Seminole; seven grandchildren, Aaron Stone and wife Jeanne of Columbus, OH, Evan Stone and wife Cele of Ransom Canyon, Zach Stone and wife Kelsie of Klondike, Lee Stone and wife Katie of Seminole, Sara Stone of Lubbock, Alisondra and husband Pete Wall of Seminole and Zach Mendoza and girlfriend Rae Horton of Hobbs, NM; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. seminolesentinel.com

*Obituary Theda Carolyn Able Stone
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratliff Funeral Homes - Seminole on Nov. 7, 2023.

Theda Carolyn Able Stone (Carolyn) was born to Frank and Doris Able on May 17, 1939, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She went to be with her Lord peacefully on November 4, 2023, surrounded by many of her family members. Carolyn's family moved many times during her youth, but they settled in Seminole, Texas in her early years of high school. She graduated from Seminole High School in May of 1957. On June 15, 1957, she married Lake Harold Stone (Harold) in Seminole and soon they began their own family. Carolyn always called Seminole her home. She spent the last several years at the Seminole Assisted Living facility and will be missed by the staff and residents.
Carolyn trusted in Christ at thirteen years of age at a GA summer camp. She was an active member of South Seminole Baptist Church in Seminole for many years. She taught Sunday School in the youth department and was a sponsor for countless youth fellowships, camps, and mission trips. She and Harold served at South Seminole for much of their adult lives. Her favorite scripture was Philippians 4:6-7. Carolyn is now experiencing the ultimate peace of God her favorite scripture describes.

Carolyn worked tirelessly as a homemaker. Her home was spotless. There was always something homemade to eat in her kitchen. There was always room for guests at her dinner table. The Stone home was a favorite hangout for many of her boys' friends. The friends seemed to show up around mealtime because they knew she would invite them to eat. Her home was a warm refuge for all.

After her sons left home, she worked diligently along with Harold as the bookkeeper for Stone Pipe and Tank. For years she handled the company accounts without a computer or spreadsheet. The accounts payable and receivable were done the old-fashioned way, by hand and without mistakes.

Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Doris Able and her husband of sixty-two years, Harold. Survivors include her two sons, Mike and his wife, Willie; David and his wife, Stephanie; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Meagan) Stone, Evan (Cele) Stone, Zach (Kelsey) Stone, Lee (Kara)Stone, Aly (Pete)Wall, Zach (Rae) Mendoza and Sara (Derek)Cox, fifteen great grandchildren; and a brother Larry (Lisa) Able.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you make donations in Carolyn's memory to your church or favorite charity. They want to say a special thank you to the staff at the Seminole Assisted Living facility for all their kind care. Carolyn will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Carolyn's funeral service will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 10:00a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Seminole, Texas. The interment will follow in the Gaines County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home. Family and friend visitation will be Wednesday, October 8, 2023, at 6:00p.m. to 7: 30p.m. at Ratliff Funeral Homes in Seminole, Texas.
