WEST TEXAS CITY - Mrs. Winnifred Evans, 69, passed from this life Wednesday, July 22,1998, at Columbia Mainland
Medical Center. Mrs. Evans, the first African- American person to be employed as a Lab Analyst at Monsanto Chemical Company, presently Sterling Chemical, retired in
1992.
She was born October 10, 1928, in La Grange, Texas, and
was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Julius Brown, brother, Julius Brown Jr., two sisters, Etta Lee Baldwin, Chloe Booker Horn and daughter, Mitzi Harrison.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Eliza L. Brown of Texas City; daughter, Stephanie (James) Booker of Texas City; sons, Reginald (June) Harrison of Houston, Brian Harrison of Fort Worth; one sister, Vivian Drisdale of Fort Worth; three brothers, Louis Brown of Corpus Christi, George Brown of Los Angeles, California, and Eugene Collins of San Marcos; two step-children, Ronnie Evans of Brazoria and Pam Evans of Columbus; three very close and dear friends, LaRue Anderson, Brenda Azemota and Wilma Azemota; 10 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in La Marque. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25th at the Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church, 801 Martin
Luther King Ave., Texas City, Texas. The Rev. H.A Ratcliff Jr. officiating. Entombment will be at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
