PAYNE, LUCILE AYRES A native Texan, Lucile Ayres Payne was educated in the Coleman Public Schools, Texas Christian University, and North Texas State (now UNT), and received her Bachelor of Science degree from UNT with a major in Art. She took immediate employment as a technical illustrator in support of the United States war effort. As the Second World War came to a close, she married Frank Henry Payne. Lucile and Frank subsequently became the parents of three children who blessed them with eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. For thirty seven years, they were the partners of Payne Associates, Designers of Interiors. In addition to her many civic honors and memberships, Lucile's peers have recognized her professional stature. She is the founder and a former president of the Interior Designers Guild of Dallas, former chair, vice-chair, and secretary of the Dallas-Fort Worth Association the American Institute of Designers (AID), former vice-chair of the Texas Chapter AID, former chair of the Dallas Association of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and former secretary and board member of the Texas Association of ASID. She received the Medalist Award from the Texas Chapter of ASID, as well as it's 1999 Presidential Award. She was named a Life Member of the Distinguished Alumna Awards for Interior Design from UNT. Despite her many professional and personal responsibilities, Lucile never left her own education or that of others. She served on the Interior Design advisory boards for East Texas State University, the Skyline Career Development Center, El Centro College, the Dallas Art Institute and Texas Women's University. For over three decades she regularly participated in the mentoring programs of UNT, TCU, and El Centro College. To celebrate her 70th year, Lucile volunteered as an architectural guide for the newly completed Dallas Museum of Art. A Memorial Service will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers and other memorials, contributions can be made for the Lucile Payne Scholarship for Interior Design, to the CLC Foundation, 2901 First City Tower, Houston TX 77002., Dignity Memorial Sparkman Hillcrest 7405 W.
