Annette Kimmel Annette Kimmel was an outgoing woman whose generosity and dedication to her community affected countless individuals throughout her life. The former Executive Director of the Jewish Community Council of Erie, died of cancer on September 24, at her home, Dallas, Texas, in the presence of her family and devoted friend and care-giver Marybeth Mitchell. Born on December 28, 1927, the only child of Charles and Rose Rubenstein of Cleveland, Ohio, she was educated in Cleveland and moved to Erie in 1957 upon her marriage to William Kimmel. An active leader of the Erie community, she served as President of the National Council of Jewish Women and Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee of Temple Anshe Hesed. Following her husband’s death in 1979, she became the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Council of Erie, responsible for Social Services, Education, Fund Raising, Community Relations and Relocation of refugees from the Soviet Union to Erie. She was a founding Director of Stairways Behavioral Health, a past Chairperson of its Board of Directors and was recognized for her many years of dedicated service. In 2005, she relocated to Dallas to join her daughter and son-in-law, Attorneys Mindy and Rick Cohen and her grandchildren, Wendy, Reid and Louis Cohen. In spite of her failing health she considered the past two years as the happiest of her life as she was able to enjoy her family. Graveside funeral services were held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, Wednesday, September 26 with Rabbi Bradley Bleefeld officiating. Memorials may be made to Stairways Behavioral Health, 138 East 26th Street, Erie, Pa. 16504 or Temple Anshe Hesed, 930 Liberty Street, Erie, Pa. 16502.
