SMALL GIRL SAVES BABY FROM DROWNING

Mattie Belle Miller of Liberty, age ten years, weighing 72 pounds, rescued her baby brother, weight 29 pounds from drowning recently, by scaling down the rocky sides of the family well and bringing him safely up to dry ground. This she was able to do from the fact that the well was 2 1-2 feet across. It was 10 1-2 feet deep and stood 8 feet in water.
She was playing horse with the baby, Billie George, age 22 months, he was pulling back on the lines, when he slipped and fell backwards into the well. Their parents were away and Mattie Belle had to act quickly, with no one to make suggestions.
The case was reported to Jeff T. Kemp, county judge, who will apply for a Carnegie hero medal for Mattie Belle, as he believes that her coolness and bravery deserve such recognition.
Mattie Belle is the daughter of Rudolph and Maggie Miller, well-known Liberty residents.-Cameron Enterprise.
