LAVERNE BETTES HORN, 80, of Alvin passed away on December 26, 2010 in Houston. LaVerne was born on July 16, 1930 in Big Spring to parents, Ethel (Fridge) and Edward Davis Bettes. She moved to the Alvin area in 1968. She married Jim Horn in September 1970 in Alvin. They were members of the First United Methodist Church of Alvin. LaVerne was also a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 5 and of the ABWA Daytime Chapter. She had a passion for sewing and needlework, her favorites being knitting, crocheting and cross stitch. She also loved to read and at one time, to cook. LaVerne found solace and enjoyment in spending time with her dogs. LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and her parents, Ethel and Davis Bettes.
She is survived by her children: Gary Edwards and wife Nancy of Calvert, Mark Edwards and wife Chianne of Lubbock, Steve Edwards and wife Debbie of Alvin, Jamie Horn of Magnolia, and Anne McLendon of Aurora, Colorado; her brothers: Wendell Bettes and wife June of Alvin, and Tom Bettes and wife Judy of Smithville; grandchildren: Jeremy, Craig, Megan, Jene' and husband Scott, Melisa, Terry, Tony, and Rachel; great-grandchildren: Haven, Casen, Christopher, Elijah, Taylor, Brandon, Kylie, Calob, Taylor Rae, Ashley, Zachary and Blake; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Froberg Funeral Home at Oak Park.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Eric Ryburn officiating. Interment followed at Oak Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to FUMC Missions.
Arrangements under the direction of Froberg Funeral Home at Oak Park.
