Texas

October 6, 1883, Maysfield, Milam County, Texas - January 1943, Maysfield, Milam County, Texas

*Obituary

Arthur Grey Phipps was born at Maysfield, October 6, 1883, and spent all of his life except the past year in the community of his birth.
He was united in marriage with Miss Lola McKinney in 1913, and soon afterward joined the Presbyterian church of which he was a consistent member. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, his daughter, Mrs. Conley A. Banks of Hiwasse, Ark.; two brothers, Coke and Tom, and one sister, Mrs. Tom Linam, all of Maysfield.
He carried the mail on the rural route out of Maysfield for many years and doubtless there are many, who if they were allowed to speak, could tell of unknown kindnesses to them. He was kind and helpful to his pastor and often when others didn't know of it; for he would say of his substantial gifts, "Don't tell it abroad to others." He must have been trying to exemplify the Bible standard of giving, "Let not your right hand know what your left hand doeth," and not sound a trumpet before him.
He was what he was, and had a heart on the inside of him, he didn't war for praise on his coat sleeve.
The pall bearers were: Hubert Atkinson, Clarence Freeman, John Thweatt, Louie Butts, Gail Newton, H. Heartsfield.
"If we could see, if we could know."
If we could see beyond today as
God can see,
If all the clouds should roll away, the shadows flee;
O'er present griefs we would not fret,
Each sorrow we would soon forget,
For many joys are waiting yet,
For you and me.
"If we could see, if we could know"
We often say,
But God in love a veil doth throw
Across our way;
We cannot wee what lies before,
And so we cling to him the more,
He leads us till this life is o'er;
Trust and obey."
-His Pastor.
