GALVESTON - Paul Michael Helfenstein, 72, passed away on Saturday, January 6,2001, at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at Broadway Funeral Home, also in Galveston, with the Rev. Alan Taylor, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow services Wednesi day at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Alta Loma, Texas. Mr. Helfenstein's family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home, Tuesday evening, January 9,2001, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Mr. Helfenstein was born on Galveston Island, June 26,
1928. For some 25 years, he was employed by the grain
elevator as head weight master for the company. Prior,
to his employment, Mr. Helfenstein dedicated his time to the United States Army where he served during the Korean Conflict, before being honorably discharged in 1952.

Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Melanie Helfenstein, Mr. Helfenstein leaves behind with cherished
memories his loving family, his wife of 48 years, Doris Helfenstem of Galveston and his two sons, Sonny Kurtz and wife, Donna, of Santa Fe, Texas, and Michael Helfenstein
and wife, Linda of Texas City, Texas. Also saddened by
this loss are Mr. Helfenstein's five loving grandchildren and two great-grandsons; his two sisters, Betty Dannar and husband, Alfred, of Brenham, Texas, and Henrietta Starr of Kingland, Texas, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

His memories left behind will live in the hearts of those
that knew him and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Michael Helfenstein, II, Alan Dickman, Louis Darinar, Fred Martorell, Butch Martorell
and Michael Martorell. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Price, Ryan Martorell and John Ford.
