Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 4, 2002 for Virginia Leland Beazley English, 84, formerly of Dew, who died on Thursday, May 2, 2002 at her residence in Waxahachie.
Service at Dew Methodist church was followed by burial at Dew Cemetery with Don White officiating.
Pallbearers were William David Hendon, Darrell Brent Gamble, Matthew Adam Rosenthal, March Anthony Adame, David Scott Brown, Justin Michael Morris and Donnie Wayne Morris, II.
Mrs. English was born in the Reynerd community near Grapeland on January 1, 1918 to Homer "Hickory" and Anna Irene Chiles Beazley.
She was married to Arlen Dale "Nig" English on June 20, 1939 in Grapeland, Houston county, by Brother G.W. Walker. The couple moved to Dew and lived there for the entirety of their married lives.
The couple farmed while Mr. English worked as a custom harvester for many years. Mrs. English worked as a homemaker until 1967. She then worked in food service in the Dew and Teague school district for twenty years. She was also a cattle rancher, and she contracted her tractor to the Texas Highway Department to mow Freestone county.
She was a member of the Dew United Methodist Church. Mrs. English was always active in school, church and community affairs. Music was also very important to Mrs. English. She greatly enjoyed the Teague Kitchen Band Music, and at home she played the piano while her four daughters sang.
Due to ill health, Mrs. English spent her last year-and-a-half in the home of her daughter Glenda in Waxahachie.
