SANTA FE - Mrs. Mary Edna "Mickey" Harris Miller passed from this life Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at her home.
Born December 30, 1919, in Galveston, Mrs. Miller had been a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Royal Neighbors of America Camp #10191 in Hitchcock, where she served as their recorder for many years.
She was a devoted, caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who especially enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. Her family loved to tease her about her "experiments", but they always enjoyed the end results. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Royal Neighbors of America and the Basket Canasta Club of La Marque.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert William and Caroline (Schaper) Harris; brother, Albert Harris and sister, Evelyn Harris.
Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years, Winston Warren Miller, Sr. of Santa Fe; son, Winston Warren Miller, Jr. and wife, Jane of Santa Fe; daughters, Laura and husband, Gilbert Mireles of Santa Fe, Mary and husband, Guy Gimenez of Austin; sister, Julie and husband, Bill Reitmeyer of Hitchcock; brother, Carol Harris of La Marque; grandchildren, Matthew Miller and Colin Gimenez; great-grandchildren, Talon Miller and Corban Miller. Also, other step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2004, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Beverly Collinsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Mike Cortez, David Harris, Dale Johnson, Albert Reitmeyer, Bill Reitmeyer, III, John Reitmeyer, Wayne Reitmeyer and Robert Webber, III. Honorary casketbearers will be Hank Cortez, Joe Pinson and Robert Webber, Jr.
Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, (409) 925-3501.
Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 129 Texas City, Texas 77592-0129 or the charity of their choice.
Mrs. Millers‚ family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Amed Community Hospice, and a very special thanks to Jennifer and to caregivers, Evangelina "Vangie" and Joetta for their care and support during her illness. Also, thanks to A. J. Castaneda, Jr. for designing her flowers.
