Funeral services for Jimmie Lea Payne, 85, of Levelland will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at First United Methodist Church, Levelland with Rev. Rusty Dickerson, pastor and Rev. Raymond Ochoa officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. She died Sunday, August 22, 2010 in Levelland, Texas.

She was born on July 1, 1925 in Afton, Texas to Marion Knox and Bertie Lea Martin Lawson. Jimmie Lea married E. C. Payne on June 8, 1944 in Lubbock and they moved to Levelland in 1950. She had previously lived here and attended Levelland schools.

Following her graduation from high school, she attended Draughon's Business College in Lubbock. She worked with her husband for a number of years as a bookkeeper for his parts business. In the 1970s, she went to work for the Hockley County RSVP and worked there for over 25 years, retiring as the Director in 2009. Her contribution to the Hockley County Senior Citizens and to her community and her church was phenomenal.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheri Belyeu of Lubbock, Texas and Susan Bradley of Crosbyton, Texas; a son, Rev. Buddy Payne of Snyder, Texas; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
