Funeral services for Ophelia (Butch) Price, 90, of Levelland will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Levelland with Rev. Brian Hill, pastor, First Baptist Church, Littlefield and Dr. Sammy Elliott, pastor, First Baptist Church, Levelland, officiating. Burial will follow in City of Levelland Cemetery, Levelland, Texas. The family will receive visitors at George Price Funeral Home from 6-8 pm, Friday, June 14, 2013.
She died on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 after a valiant battle with breast cancer.
Born in Corsicana, Texas to Claude and Mina (Cooke) Eudaly, she moved to Tahoka, Texas at the age of three. She graduated from Tahoka High School in 1939. On June 20, 1943, she married George C. Price and he preceded her in death on October 27, 1997. Butch was active with her husband in the operation of George Price Funeral Home and also in the community of Levelland. She received her funeral directors license in 1955, having been a member of the last correspondence class of Gupton-Jones School of Mortuary Science.
She was an active with the Homebuilders Home Demonstration Club for many years and served on various committees. Butch also was a past member of the Levelland Chapter #797, Order of the Eastern Star, where she was past Worthy Matron. She was past Grand Ward, Grand Chapter of Texas, Order of the Eastern Star. Butch served the Levelland Assembly # 118, Order of the Rainbow for Girls, for several years and was still lovingly called "Momma Butch" by the girls she mentored during that time. She was also active with the South Plains Association of Governments in its early days, having served on the Emergency Services System Advisory Committee and Regional Health Advisory Council. She was on the original committee of ten that organized what is now known as the Hockley County Senior Citizens. After, George died; she returned her membership to the Baptist Church, becoming active with First Baptist Church, Texas and the Senior Adult Choir.
She is survived by one daughter; Gayle Robertson of Levelland, Texas, one son; George C. Price, Jr. and his wife Karen of Childress, Texas, five grandchildren; Jeremy Price and his wife Jennifer of White River, South Africa, Zachary Price and his wife Aneke of Wylie, Texas, Caleb Price of Austin, Lindsay Bryant and her husband Jon of Lubbock, Texas and Mika Smith and her husband Will of Lubbock, Texas and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two Brothers and two sisters.
The family suggests memorials to the George and Butch Price Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1401 S. College, Levelland, Texas 79336 or to the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 7412 University Avenue, Lubbock, Texas 79423.
