Carrie Fuqua Nelson, 91, of Cleburne, died Friday, August 13, 2004 in Fort Worth. Funeral services were conducted August 16 in the Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Payne officiating. Burial was in the Gentry Mills Cemetery in Hamilton at the Fuqua family plot. She was born on December 28, 1912 in Stevens County, the daughter of Joe Franklin and Nora Lamb Fuqua. She married James Perry Nelson on October 21, 1991 in Cleburne. She was a homemaker and a retired clerk for Allstate Insurance Co. She lived her entire life in Texas. She was a fun-loving Christian lady who loved her family and enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to travel and work in her yard and garden. She always had a beautiful yard with many varieties of pretty flowers. Her favorite pastime was fishing where her motto was, "If they're big enough to get on the hook, they are big enough to keep." She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Nelson of Cleburne; four nephews, Bob and Gene (Soup) Fuqua of Hamilton, Joe Fuqua of Fort Worth and James Fuqua of Arlington; three nieces, Sue Fuqua Wilson of Austin, Betty Jo Bullard Gilmore and Nancy Bullard Garrett of Arlington; numerous friends, great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Newman, Bill and Cecil Fuqua; one sister, Lorena (Sis) Fuqua Bullard.
Pallbearers were her great nephews, Curtis Harris, Gene (Bud), Andy, Russell, Steven, Scott, and Jason Fuqua and Chris Chaffin.
