Funeral services for Joe Richards, 90, of Borger were held at 11 a.m. today in Minton Memorial Chapel with Minister Bruce Ridling of Borger officiating.
Burial was in the "Garden of Serenity" at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mr. Richards died in his home in Borger on Wednesday, June 18, 1997.
A native of Liberty, Neb., he had been a Borger pioneer resident since 1926. He was a Protestant.
Mr. Richards founded Joe Richards Music Co. in 1923. He was still the owner of the business at the time of his death. He played music in several famous orchestras before settling in Borger in 1926.
He held the title of the longest living among the original settlers of musicians who played music and entertained at Borger's first birthday. He was dedicated to teaching his children music and providing musical entertainment for local functions.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Richards of the home; one son, William Daniel "Danny" Richards of Borger; two daughters, Kathy Ridling of Borger and Lisa Hatch of Dumas; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Casketbearers will be David Arthur, Efton Ford, Wes Aikens, Brian Hatch, Nick Crawford, Brad Ridling, Freddie Hatch, Lorenzo Hatch, Andrew Hatch and Kelly Richards.

BORGER — Maxine "Mackie" Richards, 79, of Borger died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Grace Church with the Rev. Marshall Ford, pastor, officiating and the Rev. Tim Hall, pastor, assisting. Burial will follow in the "Garden of Serenity" at Westlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mrs. Richards was born May 30, 1932, in Klondike to William R. and Amy E. Looney.
She was a secretary for Rosa Pace's office since 2005 and owned Richards Music Company from 1951 to 2004 with her husband, Joe.
Survivors include a son, Danny Richards of Borger; two daughters, Kathy Reed of Borger and Lisa Hatch of San Angelo; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a great-great-grandson.
