TEXAS CITY — Virginia Rowell McCracken, 88, of Texas City passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Hearthstone Assisted Living. She was born October 10, 1919, in Surry Co., Virginia to William and Lucy Rowell. She was a resident of Texas City for 47 years; a member of First United Methodist of La Marque. She loved her church where she was in charge of The Little People Church School and active with the quilting group. Virginia was also involved with La Marque Aid and Guidance and knitted hats for the Seamen Association.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 69 years of marriage, Hugh H. McCracken of Texas City, Texas; two daughters Ruth Henery and husband Doug of Boise, Idaho, Patti Zein-Eldin of Galveston, Texas; three sons Robert McCracken and wife Beth of Salt Lake City, Utah, John McCracken and wife Marta of Anchorage, Alaska, Gary McCracken and wife Lynda of Dickinson, Texas, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and eight great great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, 2008, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the chapel of the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral services will be Friday, June 6, 2008, at 10 a.m., at the James Crowder Funeral Home, with Dr. Michael Deaton officiating. Entombment will follow at Grace Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Robert McCracken, John McCracken, Gary McCracken, Neal Zein-Eldin, Benjamin Zein-Eldin, Kevin Jantz, Douglas Henery and David Shinn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building fund at First United Methodist Church of La Marque, 1825 Howell Street, La Marque, Texas 77568.
