BORGER - L.D. Spires, Jr., 84, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, in "The Garden of Devotion" at Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Paul Burwash, pastor of Fairlanes Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mr. Spires was born on Aug. 15, 1925, in Breckenridge, Texas. He was raised in Borger, served in the U.S. Navy in WW II and married Melba Hamil on April 24, 1948, in Borger where he worked for D&E which was later purchased by Sinclair. He was later transferred to Kermit, Texas, where he retired from Atlantic Richfield in 1985. He moved to Gardendale, Texas, until moving to Beggs, Okla., in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Melba after 54 years of marriage; parents, Louis and Meta Spires; and sister, Faye Mullins.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Spires of Odessa, Texas, and Jacky Spires and wife Sonnya of Spring, Texas; five grandsons, Josh, Jon, J.J., Carl and Steven; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will be staying at 113 Broadmoor in Borger.
The family would also like to give a special thanks to Stella for being such a special person in Dad's life.

GARDENDALE - Melba Mavis Spires, 71, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Terry Pierce, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene in Odessa, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mrs. Spires was born May 5, 1931, in Nowata, Okla. She was a beauty operator at the Beauty Inn when she lived in Borger.
Survivors include her husband, Louis; two sons, Jack Spires of Spring and Larry Spires of Gardendale; her stepmother, Elizabeth Hamil of Nowata; a brother, Billy Hamil of Kingwood; a sister, Nevada McLaughlin of Borger; five grandsons; and a great-grandson.
