Evelyn Syrus, 93, of Bay City died September 28, 2000 at Matagorda House Nursing Home in Bay City. She was born July 11, 1907 to the late William and Dora Alice Byers Stansell. Mrs. Syrus was a resident of Bay City the past 10 years, a former resident of Borger, Texas and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Borger.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Glen Simmons of Bay City and Charlotte and Earl Hague of Norman, Okla., five grandchildren, Shelley Mineau of Bay City, Conda Chandler and husband Tony of Grapevine, Texas, Joel Allen and wife Schawn and Tod Hague all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six great grandchildren, Chris Taylor, Jolene Mejias, Marc Hipp, Chris Cothren, Chad Cothren and Charla Cothren and six great great grandchildren, Christopher Taylor, Chariti Taylor, David Joel Mejias, Chayanne Mejias, Kacie Cothren and Morgan Paige Cothren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joel Syrus, five sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 30, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Watson officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
