ROTAN — Frances Green Weatherman, longtime resident of Rotan went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 26, 2006. She passed away at Rotan Healthcare Center, where she had been a resident for four years. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Rotan on Sunday, May 28, 2006; at 4 P.M. Rev. Larry Holder will officiate. Kenny Martin, grandson-in-law of the deceased, will sing her favorite hymns. Burial will be in Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan under the direction of Weathersbee — Ray Funeral Home.
Frances, daughter of a pioneer Fisher County family, was born on November 5, 1912, at their ranch house, NE of Rotan.
Her parents, John Ross Green and Lena May (Millsap) Green preceded her in death. Frances' sisters, Lena Ross Watson and Darthulia Hale, and Brothers Hittson Green and James Green also preceded her death.
As a young girl, Frances attended Abilene High School and graduated from McMurry College in 1936. At McMurry, Frances met the love of her life, Lawrence Arvil Weatherman from Rising Star, Texas. Lawrence was on the football team, and an I. H. R. Indian Chief. Frances was a T. I. P. Indian Princess, and after graduation from McMurry, they were married at the Green Ranch Home on May 24, 1937. Lawrence passed away on April 26, 1976, at their home.
A lifetime teacher, Frances taught her first year at Barnhart, Texas. After their first two children were born and while Lawrence was serving in the Navy during World War II, Frances taught at Dowell, Texas. After Dowell consolidated, Mrs. Weatherman taught in Rotan Schools for over 26 years. She loved teaching and all of her "little ones."
Frances was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, the Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rotan.
Leaving behind a large, loving family, Frances is survived by one son, Larry Frank Weatherman of Abilene; two daughters, Nancy Jean Hartsfield of Lubbock and Susan Anne Martinez and son-in-law Robert X. Martinez of Rotan, 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Frances leaves behind a legacy of loving memories and family heritage.
