Marilyn Harris Brookman was born August 29, 1950 in Lubbock.

She attended school in Ralls, graduated in 1967 and attended Texas Tech University and taught for 34 years with the Lubbock ISD. She retired in 2007.

Marilyn enjoyed hiking canyons, hot air ballooning, riding motorcycles, her truck, Texas Tech and anything exciting. Her true passions however were people and pets. She devoted herself to teaching second grade and hundreds learned to read and basic math skills under her caring instruction. She continued caring for people after retirement by visiting hospitals and nursing homes with her registered therapy dogs.

Special people in her life include her parents, Wayne and Pauline Harris; an older sister, Wanda and her husband Nolan Purser; a brother, Larry Harris and his wife Betty of Hereford/Amarillo; and Wade Jackson, Charlie Brookman and Thomas Rawls.

Nieces and nephews include Stan Purser of Houston, Patty Harris Pare of Lubbock, Kirk Purser, Sheree Goforth Carr of Amarillo, and Brad Purser of Houston, and their spouses and children.

Her pets were also very special to her, especially Tucker who died in the auto accident with her on October 14, 2009 and Magnum, Flash, and Boo who worked with her in Southcrest's Critters for Christ Therapy Dog Program.

Her funeral will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Ralls with burial in the Ralls Cemetery.
