Obituary:
Last Rites Held For George Fleming, Sr. At M. E. Church, March 15
George L. Fleming, son of Jefferson and Mary Fleming, was born near Mound City, Kansas, Sept. 4th, 1861. He departed from this life March 14th, 1949 at the ripe age of 87 years, 6 months and 10 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Sisson August 15th, 1883. She preceded him in death in 1921. To this union were born twelve children, four of whom died in infancy. Those surviving him are: Jack of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Fred Russell of Wagner, Oklahoma, Mrs. Grant Ruby of Filer, Idaho, George of Shattuck, Harry of Logan, Oklahoma, Mrs. Virgil Cope, Carl, and Julian, of Follett. Seventeen G Grandchildren and thirteen Great-Grandchildren also survive their grandfather.
With his family he moved to a ranch south of Follett, Texas in 1908 and from there to what is known as the Stuart Ranch east of Follett in 1916.
The active years of his long life were spent in the cattle and farming business here in the "Early West," and like all of those who came this way when things were hard and comforts few, he pioneered in those lasting values and steady characteristics that are our heritage as their children.
In his aging season he spent his time mostly in the homes of Mary and George, and even though his many friends knew that he must soon journey to the land of everlasting day, we are never ready to say goodby, and it is with sadness, and it is with sadness and sympathy along with his loving family that we see him give up his place among us here on earth, to join his comrades in celestial prospecting.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church here Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. E. B. Thompson, pastor, preaching the sermon to a large crowd of friends and relatives that gathered to pay their last respects to this fine gentleman.
Mr. Fleming passed away in the Hospital at Shattuck, Oklahoma March 14th after being in a car accident recently.
The remains were laid to rest in the Fairmont Cemetery north of Follett.
Mason and Son of Shattuck had charge of the arrangements.
The Follett Times joins others in extending our sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow.
