LIPSCOMB - Mary Gail Fry, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with Gary Jahnel, longtime family friend, officiating and the Rev. Floyd Thiessen assisting. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Follett by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian.

Mary was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Lipscomb County, near Follett, to Mary Eleanor Broyles Haines and Arno Lemuel Haines. She grew up on her grandparents' farm, graduating from Follett High School, then Draughons School of Business.

She went on her first date on her 16th birthday with Russell Lloyd Fry. They later married on Dec. 23, 1949, in St. John's Congregational Church, southwest of Follett.

They made their home together for almost 59 years in Lipscomb, except for a two-year stay in Alaska, where Lloyd served in the U.S. Army and Mary worked for the military.

Mary's professional life was spent with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She retired in 1985 after 35 years with the Lipscomb County ASCS office.

Mary's real calling though was in nurturing and caring for her family and their friends, whom she soon made family. Her greatest pleasure was in becoming Nanny to one and all for the last 32 years.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Fry; her son, Jim Fry and wife Kathy of Lipscomb; and her children and grandchildren, Will Bussard and wife Mary Helen and daughter, Phyllis, all of Denver, Giulia Morvan and husband Red and children, Lindley, Finn and Cooper, all of Katy, and Cheri Huntress and husband Levi and children, Gracie, Eric and Delaney, all of Wellington; her daughter, Barbara Jines; two granddaughters, Jessica Russell and husband Justin and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Loclynne and Katie Cummins, all of Canadian; two sisters, Lottie Oakley and husband Ray of Amarillo and Cora Jane Luck of Denver City; a brother, Gene Haines and wife Betty of Odessa; five nephews; three nieces; and her treasured cousin, Ray Allen.
