Kelly Mack was born March 31, 1937 to Kellie and Era Sears on the family farm in Gomez, Texas. He graduated from Brownfield High School and attended Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1959. For the rest of his life he remained a loyal Red Raider and avid fan of Texas Tech athletics. Kelly Mack married Virginia Denson on August 12, 1960 in Brownfield, Texas. They enjoyed a 52 year marriage and raised their family in Plainview. He was a road warrior for over 40 years selling ag chemicals, first for Olin and ending his career with was Tessenderlo Kerley. He loved what he did and was well respected throughout his chosen industry, feeling blessed to be able to be productive into his early 70’s. Church and family were the foundation and framework upon which Kelly Mack built his life. He was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Plainview for over 50 years and could be counted on to dedicate tireless hours of time and energy, especially with the church’s landscaping. Kelly Mack also enjoyed participating with the Noon Lions Club, delivering Meals on Wheels and was a cheerful presence at the YMCA. He was the type of person who rarely met a stranger and usually parted ways with a new friend. Kelly Mack also believed in the importance of family and was always able to make time for them. He was considered a rock in both his and his wife’s families, while retaining a fiercely competitive streak for the standing dominoes game with his older brothers. He also greatly enjoyed working on his yard, always striving, and usually succeeding in maintaining the greenest lawn on the block and flowerbeds that were the pride of the neighborhood. In his later years Kelly Mack moved to New Braunfels to be closer to his children and grandchildren. In New Braunfels he regularly attended New Braunfels Presbyterian Church and was very active in the Rio Terra community where he lived.

Kelly Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Kellie and Era, his brothers Odell, Ernest, and Earl, and his wife Virginia. He is survived by his son Gregory Sears and wife Laura of New Braunfels, Texas, his daughter Jennifer Gonzalez and husband Luis of Austin, Texas, and two granddaughters, Abigail and Kristin Sears of New Braunfels, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who he made feel like part of the family.

Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church, 1001 W. 7th Street, Plainview, Texas 79072, or a charity of your choice.
