Services for Betty M. Moore formerly of Brownfield will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Brownfield on Monday, Oct. 2nd at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1st at the Brownfield Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. Betty passed from this life on Monday, September 25th at her home at Sunrise Assisted Living in Westminster, Colorado.

Betty was born to Thomas J. and Vera Hillis on April 7, 1936 at home near Hermleigh, Texas. She grew up on the family farm, was active in the 4-H program and graduated from Hermleigh High School in 1954. Betty is survived by her two sisters Alma Waterman and Fern Butler who both reside in the Dallas Fort-Worth area. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Ellen Hillis and her brother T.J. Hillis, Jr. Following her graduation from Texas Tech University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education, Betty moved to Brownfield to become the Terry County Home Demonstration Agent. She met her husband Donald W. Moore shortly afterward, and they were married on October 3, 1958 in Brownfield where they raised their children and were active in the community. She and Don were married for over 45 years until he preceded her in death in 2004. Betty’s great joys in life included her relationships with family, friends, and students and serving the community. She was an educator for 40 years and taught school at Union and Dawson Schools. She received her Master’s in Elementary Education from Texas Tech University in 1991. Most of Betty’s career was spent teaching kindergarten at Dawson elementary where she enjoyed helping children get a great start to their education. She believed in helping children develop a lifelong love of learning, and she was profoundly fulfilled by her work with students in the classroom. Betty was also a great seamstress, cook and gardener. Betty was active in the community as a volunteer, officer and board member for several organizations including Brownfield United Methodist Church, American Association of University Women (AAUW), Texas State Teachers Association, Terry County Retired Teachers Association and Friendship FHC.

She is survived by a family that were blessed by the love and light that she brought to life; son Jeffrey D. Moore and wife Jennifer Moore of York, PA, daughter Renae’ Morrish and husband Richard A. Morrish, Jr. of Thornton, CO, daughter Donna Taylor and husband Pat Taylor of Lubbock, TX, daughter Terrie Caskey and husband John W. Caskey III of Pearland, TX and step-son Arlie Moore of Spring Hill, FL. She had 10 grandchildren including Michelle Scherbaum, Shayne Vu, Danielle Eudy, Sloane Beadle, Kacie Morrish, Jace Morrish, Baylee Travis, Hayden Moore, Eric Dedmon and Corey Dedmon. Her 14 great-grandchildren include Trevor Scherbaum, Jayd Lam, Brittnee Phoung, Destinee Vo, Katie and Addison Haney, Nathan Beadle, Maverick Kubiszewski, Stella Morrish, Laura and Aaron Travis, Landon Moore, Mark Dedmon and Anna Dedmon. She also had four great-greatgrandchildren.
