Johnnie Mildred Bowman of Lorenzo passed away Aug. 9, 2013. Johnnie was born in Eastland County Feb. 26, 1917 to John and Clara Vaught. The family later moved to Lubbock where she graduated from Lubbock High in 1933 and then attended Texas Tech where she received her BA and Masters Degree. She began her teaching career at Ropesville before moving to Lorenzo, where she taught for 35 years. Johnnie married Carl Alverson in 1935. Carl passed away in 1958 and she married Jack Bowman in July of 1961. He preceded her in death in 2003. She remained in her home in Lorenzo until 2010 when she moved to Autumn House in Idalou. Johnnie is survived by her daughter, Judy Miller of Lubbock; granddaughters, Susan Foster of Southlake, Sharon Loftis of Lubbock, and Jackie Bowman of Los Angeles; a grandson, Casey Bowman of Los Angeles; niece, Ernesteen Kelly of Lubbock; and two great-grandsons. The family would like to express great appreciation to the excellent staff of Autumn House for the wonderful care given to Johnnie in her final years. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens Association of Lorenzo. A private graveside service will precede a memorial service.
