Funeral services for Billy Joe Ellis, 31, Route 12, Box 18 EA, Houston, were held Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10:30 a.m. in the Tennessee Colony Union Church with the Rev. R.C. Terry officiating.
Burial was in the Tennessee Colony Cemetery.
Pallbearers were the following members of the Cypress-Fairbanks High School faculty, Houston; Bill Homier, William Favor, Jim Liner, Larry Cooper, Dan Aiken, and Walter Holmes, a former member of the faculty.
Mr. Ellis was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Anderson County and was reared in the Elkhart area. A graduate of Elkhart High School, he was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Redtown. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Sam Houston State Teachers College, and was a member of Alpha Tau Delta, honorary vocational fraternity, Assistant principal of the Cypress-Fairbanks High School, Houston, he died Thursday, Aug. 29, 1968 at 2:55 a.m. following injuries received in an automobile accident there.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joan Woolverton Ellis; two sons, Joe Ben Ellis and Gregory Allen Ellis, all of Houston; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Earl Ellis of Redtown(Rt. 1, Elkhart); grandmother, Mrs. Virgie Mathews of Elkhart; two brothers, Johnny Ellis of Nacogdoches and Edwin Ellis of Palestine; two sisters, Mrs. J.C. (Edna)Lane of
Port Lavaca and Mrs. Jack (Josie) Owens of Houston.
Arrangements were by Hassell and Foster.
