Graveside services for Raymond Chance, 85, of Ralls, will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at the Ralls Cemetery, with Charles Ball officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Raymond passed away on Dec. 23, 2007 at his home.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1922 in Ralls to the late Lewis Webster and Mattie (Benton) Chance. On Feb. 8, 1947 he married Jo Melton in Post. She preceded him in death on July 1, 1996.

Raymond attended school in Lubbock then graduated from Ralls High School in 1939. In August of 1942 he joined the US Navy and entered the 37th Battalion of the Seabees and was a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class. Raymond spent most of his service in the South Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2466 in Lubbock. Raymond had lived most of his life in Crosby County and was a farmer. He had served on the boards of Owens Co-Op Gin and Farmers Home Administration.

He is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald, of Irving, Kenny and wife, De, of Floydada; a brother, Bill and wife, Pat, of Clyde; two grandchildren, Melode Watson and husband, Ed, of Ralls, Randy Chance and wife, Haley, of Lubbock; and two great-grandchildren, Huntor and Dakotah Watson, both of Ralls.
