Borger News Herald - March 27, 1972
Garland Wayne Murphy, 31, of Borger, died at 4:55 a.m. Sunday at High Plains Hospital in Amarillo, of injuries suffered in a one-car accident a week ago.
Department of Public Safety officers said the mishap occurred about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, on Texas 136 about one-half mile west of Borger.
Murphy, who was traveling alone at the time, was driving east, patrolmen said, when the left front tire blew out causing the car to go out of control.
Officers said the vehicle rolled over twice throwing Murphy out of the car. He had been hospitalized since the accident.
Funeral services for Murphy will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Minton Memorial Chapel.
The Rev. Jimmy Gilmore, pastor of Riverview Baptist Church, and the Rev. David Chadwick, pastor of Sanford Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
A native and lifetime resident of Borger, Murphy was employed as a mechanic.
Survivors include a daughter, Terri Lee Murphy of Sawyer, Okla.; his mother, Mrs. Ollie Murphy of Borger; three sisters, Mrs. Preston Mangus of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. Ray Culwell of Borger, and Mrs. Roy Holland of Phillips; and a brother, Richard Murphy of Amarillo.
Casketbearers will be Claudie West, Phil West, David Sullens, Bob Landers, Fred Landers, Alton Cheatwood.
