AMARILLO - Newton Walter Murphy, 72, of Amarillo, died at 10 a.m. Monday at High Plains Baptist Hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at N.S. Griggs & Sons Pioneer Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Mills, pastor of the Forest Hills United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Borger.

Mr. Murphy had lived in Amarillo since 1941. He had also lived in Groom.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; a son, John L. of Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. Connie White of Borger; a brother, Charlie of Wetumka, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Neelie Atkinson of Abilene, Mrs. Asa Kersey of Manitou, Okla. and Mrs. Hazel Elliot of Littleton, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Juanita N. Murphy, 72, of 703 Mississippi, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday in St. Anthony's in Amarillo.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Wesley United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Putnam, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Ed Brown & Sons Funeral Directors.

A native of Kemp, Okla., Mrs. Murphy had been a Borger resident for the past two years. She had formerly lived in Groom and was a longtime Amarillo resident.

Mrs. Murphy was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Newton W. Murphy, died in 1978.

Survivors are one son, John L. of Dallas; one daughter, Mrs. Connie White of Borger; one brother, R.T. Powell of Tipton, Okla.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Robert Norman, Gene Wade, Robert J. Ledwig, Carl Mason, Troy Mullens and David Hough. Honorary pallbearers will be A.J. Moore, Robert L. Mackey, Avery L. Mackey, Joe Davis, I.N. Deason, Bob D'Arcy, Ronnie Geerdes, John Durham and W.R. Martin.
