Juana Jay JJ Sires LUBBOCK-Juana Jay JJ Sires of Shallowater passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. She was born Aug. 22, 1940, in Brownfield, Texas, to Charles and Patsy Barret. JJ was raised in Brownfield. JJ was a Texas Master Gardener, managing to grow a lush garden despite of harsh West Texas climate. She was also an avid reader and marvelous cook. JJ was an amazing mom and granny! Even though she had a blended family, she treated her stepchildren as her own. She was known for her laughter, food and flowers. JJ married Terry Sires on July 9, 2000, and together they made an inspiring and loving couple. She had an infectious zest for life that made almost anything fun. Her active imagination and compassion for others as well as her ready smile made those around her love her all the more. JJ was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Viola Barret. Survivors include her husband, Terry Sires; sister, Sharon Barret; sons, David and Jay VanStory; grandchildren, Jessica and Denae VanStory; stepchildren, Angela (Gary) O'Daniel and Brandon (Mary) Sires; stepgrandchildren, James, Quinn, Rebecca, Ashlyn, Jonathan and Samantha; as well as a host of friends and family. JJ leaves a grand legacy of cherished memories. Memorial services will be held, Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at 5 p.m. in 1st Unitarian Universalist Church, 2801 42nd St., Lubbock.
