Richard J. Smirl
October 31, 1951 - January 16, 2015

Richard Smirl, 63 of Amarillo died Friday January 16th in Amarillo. Funeral services will be 2 :00 pm Tuesday January 20th at Fritch Assembly of God Church with Chris Smirl his son officiating. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Visitation will be Monday January 19th from 5 pm to 7 pm at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Borger.

Richard was born in Borger October 31, 1951 to Arthur E. and Cora lee Webster Smirl. He served in the Marines. Worked at Sid Richardson as a welder and mechanic for 26 years. He married Joyce Ward February 26, 1972 in Borger. He loved his family, camping and sports.

Richard is survived by sons David and wife Diana Smirl of Amarillo, Jerry and wife Sheree Smirl of Stinnett, Chris and wife Tiffany Smirl of Fritch. Brother Arthur Smirl of Iowa City, Iowa. Sister Cathy Matthews of Amarillo. Seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Joyce Elaine Smirl, 63, died June 10, 2013 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Highland Park Cemetery with Mr. Richard Kasko, Fritch Church of Christ officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Joyce was born March 14, 1950 in Borger to Delbert and Uldene Marcus Ward, she lived here for 47 years and had lived in Amarillo for the past 4 years. She had worked at Crockett Elementary in Borger for several years and was Residential Administrator at the Denton State School before retiring. Joyce was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband Richard, her three sons David Smirl and wife Diane of Amarillo, Jerry Smirl and wife Sheree of Stinnet and Chris Smirl and wife Tiffany of White House, Texas, her brother John Ward of Montgomery, TX and 9 Grandchildren.

There will be a family visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home.
