*Obituary
Barbara L. Smith died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, in Borger.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Scott Maze, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mrs. Smith was born on Jan. 26, 1944, in Borger and had been a lifetime resident of Borger. She graduated from Spring Creek Elementary School and Borger High School, and attended West Texas State University. Barbara worked for an import/export company while living in California. She returned to Texas and continued as a bookkeeper and secretary. Barbara also worked for the Borger Police Department and the Hutchinson County Library. She enjoyed being a member of Desk and Derrick. Her hobbies included sewing, needlepoint, reading and baking birthday cakes. The most enjoyable time in her life was the time she spent with her son growing up, and she thrived on sharing life with her grandchildren and their parents. Barbara joined the First Baptist Church early in life and began her walk with the Lord, which continued her earthly life.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mid Newby, and a brother, George Newby, Jr., in October 2000.
She is survived by a son, Mike, and his wife, Carrie, of Borger; two sisters, Becky Alexander and Betty Newby, both of Borger; three grandchildren, BreAnna, Michael and Whitney Smith, all of Borger; six nephews, one niece, at least a dozen great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great nephew.
Casket bearers will be Mike Smith, David Smith, Mark Maupin, Doug Alexander, David Alexander II, and David Alexander III.
