Windell was born July 20, 1929 in Levelland, Tx. and grew up in Brownfield, Tx. and Fresno, California. He graduated from Brownfield High School and married Patsy Jean Johnson on July 24, 1949.

His parents were Luck and Helen Pace and Wayland and Mamie Whisenant. Windell worked in the oilfield and retired with Amoco Production Company in 1986. He and his wife owned and operated Dan’s 7-11 which was famous for its sloppy joes and sold for a quarter a piece. They also operated a carwash in Brownfield for many years. Windell was an avid square dancer and a member of the Terry County Twirlers and the Diamond Jubilees.

Windell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat, one brother Ronald, and one grandson, Michael Gunn.

He is survived by his children, Carolyn Whisenant Crowson and husband Sammy of Lubbock and Danny Whisenant and wife Judy of Levelland. He is also survived by two sisters, Debbie Tillis and Donice Kuykendall, and a brother, Jim Whisenant all of California, and a brother, Morgan Pace of San Antonio. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Chad, Tosha, Monti, Wade and Kim; and thirteen great grandchildren.
