Maidel Sorensen Browder, beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Friday, February 8, 2013. She was born in 1928 in Wheeler, Texas to Edison and May Sorensen. Both her parents preceded her in death, as did her twin sister, Armell Holt Brown of Wheeler, and sister, Joyce Raby of Waco.

Those left to cherish Maidel's life are daughter Marilyn Browder Green and husband Mark of Houston; son Mark Browder and wife Terri of Keller, Texas; grandchildren Alana Tobian and husband Ben; Mackenzie Cota and husband Tim; Kate Green; Camden Browder; precious 4 month-old great grandson Meyer Tobian; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Maidel graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was very proud of this accomplishment, and the memories she carried from her college years remained very dear to her. She taught school in Corpus Christi and in the Spring Branch ISD in Houston. Maidel retired early to care for her growing family whom she loved dearly. She presided over a busy household, baking cookies, tending her garden and helping her neighbors.

After her children were grown, she remained active as a member of First Baptist Church of Houston where she taught Sunday school and worked in the church library. Maidel also enjoyed her neighborhood friends in the Afton Village Women's Club and TIPS (her women's investment club).

Her father gave her a passionate love for her country, and she frequently shared her admiration for the founding fathers of the United States. She revered the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Maidel frequently wrote letters to her Congressmen and always ended her prayers with her desire that God watch over and bless the U.S. troops.

"Meemaw/Grandma" was a godly woman and greatly loved by family and life-long friends, and everyone whose life she touched will miss her.

A Memorial service to celebrate Maidel's life will be held Saturday, February 16 at 4:00 in the Chapel at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay, Houston.

Maidel proudly supported Cal Farley's Boys Ranch / Girls Town for many years. In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial gift to Cal Farley's, or a charity of your choice.
