Last Rites Read For Ben Barker

Services for Ben G. Barker were conducted September 27, at 2:00 p.m at the First Baptist Church in Wheeler with the pastor, Rev. Frank J. Ross in charge, assisted by Rev. Carlton Thomson.

Mr. Barker was born in Ranger, Texas May 27, 1895. He was a former Wheeler resident and lived at Mobeetie from 1928 until 1934. He was a resident of Dallas for the past 11 years, moving there from Pheonix [sic], Arizona.

November 29, 1916 he was married to Myrtle Oswalt at Wellington, Texas. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Mobeetie and the Baptist Church at Wellington. Mr. Barker was engaged in farming most of his active life but he had been in ill health the past 4 years and seriously ill since August 1, 1958.

Mr. Barker was moved from his home at Dallas and placed in the Wheeler Hospital September 19, where he passed away Thursday evening, September 25, at the age of 63 years 3 months and 28 days.

Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Myrtle Barker of Dallas; 1 son, Audie to Tucson, Arizona, and 1 daughter, Mrs. Berdania Keyes of Dallas.

Surviving also are 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Florence Dodd of Wheeler, Mrs. Maye Francis of Gageby, and Mrs. Iva Vise of Wheeler; and 3 brothers, Tom of Palm Desert, Calif., J.D. o Canyon and Claude of Gageby. His parents and 1 brother proceeded him in death.

Pall bearers were Melvin Johnson, Aubrey Greenhouse, Clarence Dyson, Ed Johnson, Jess Godwin and Henry Flanagan.

Interment with graveside Masonic rites by Mobeetie Lodge, was in the Wheeler Cemetery under direction of Kirk Funeral Home.
