WHEELER - Kent Gaines, 51, died Sunday, July 20, 2011, in Canadian.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Wheeler with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors of Wheeler.

Kent was born on May 1, 1960, in Wheeler to Richard Gaines and Dixie Sanders. Kent graduated from Wheeler High School in 1978. He married Becky Ashbrook on April 15, 2005, in Wheeler. He worked for Enbridge Pipeline of Shamrock for five years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dixie, in 2009.

Kent is survived by his wife, Becky Gaines of Wheeler; his father, Richard Gaines of Wheeler; four sons, Kris Gaines and Lexi of Monahans, Cody Gaines and wife Kaylee of Odessa, Kenton Gaines of Brookings, Ore., and Justin Brown of Amarillo; two daughters, Julie Reid and husband Kevin of Myrtle Creek, Ore., and Ashley Moore of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; a brother, Darrell Gaines of Wheeler; two sisters, Lynette DeMoss of El Campo and Vicki Gurley of Perryton; and seven grandchildren.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 411 S. Fillmore St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
