The McCaslands moved to Wheeler County in 1912 from Stamford, Texas, a small town in Jones County. They lived one mile south of Wheeler. Lee and Abbie raised their family of two boys and six girls, all of whom attended school in Wheeler.

The oldest of their children was Jim McCasland who married Anna Lee and later moved to Atlanta, Texas. Jim was the first of the McCasland family to graduate from Wheeler High School. He was the editor of the first annual published for the Wheeler High School.

Kitty Lee was the first in line of six girls. She married Gus Ware from Mobeetie.

Birdie Violettie was the second girl, she fell in love at an early age of fourteen and married Chester Hampton. The Hampton family were also long time residents of Wheeler and their family is still a part of the community.

Mary Pearl was the third girl in the family and after graduation attended college at Canyon, Texas where she married Sam Morris, a druggist from Amarillo. They later made their home in Borger, Texas.

Ruby Fay was the fourth girl in the family and after graduating from College married Marshal Adams. They lived in Amarillo many years and later moved to Shamrock where they operated Adams Hardward. Their son Robert Adams still operates the hardware store in Shamrock.

Orville Parthena was the fifth daughter. She married Aubrey Greenhouse and made their home in Mobeetie. Orville still lives on the Greenhouse farm today.

Mildred Jewel was the youngest daughter of the McCasland family. She also received her college education and was married to Clarence Holt. They resided in Borger, Texas. The Holt family was prominent in making Wheeler the place it is today. Mr. D.E. Holt was owner of the Citizens State Bank in Wheeler. They resided in the house which is now across the street south of the Methodist Church.

The youngest McCasland, Lindsey Edmund, made the family very happy by being born a boy after six girls. Being the youngest of 8 children, the McCasland girls were very proud they had a brother and spoiled him like any youngest child should be. Lindsey married Lula Barr and they lived on the McCasland farm south of town. Their children Elaine, Kenneth, Terry and Brenda all attended school in Wheeler. Their 11 children also all graduated from Wheeler High School. Elaine and Terry were teachers in the Wheeler School and are now retired. Kenneth was in the Insurance business and is now retired. Brenda works in the County Clerks Office at the Wheeler County Courthouse. Lula still resides on the family farm south of town.
