ZAPATA — Lurlene Howard, born on Aug. 3, 1916, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at a local care center in San Antonio, Texas.
Mrs. Howard is preceded in death by her husband, J. Ralph Howard; parents, C.A. and Jennie Ravan; and 13 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Howard is survived by her son B.J. Howard and wife Dixie of Corpus Christi; daughter Maurene Dunkin and husband Bud of San Antonio; grandchildren: James Howard and wife Kelly of Bourbon, Ind.; Penny Howard of Zapata, Texas; Melanie Morris of League City, Texas; Ron Dunkin and wife Chris of Driftwood, Texas; Kathryn Smith and husband Jerry Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren: Alex, Jon and Shelly Howard; Jack, Dan and Elizabeth Kimble; Jordie Morris; Stephanie Davis and husband Gerald; Shawn Dunkin; and great-great-grandchildren John and Tray Hodge.
She was a member of Zapata Baptist Church and 50-year member of Eastern Star Zapata Chapter No. 1106.
Visitation hours will be Friday, April 28, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rose Garden Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Zapata, Texas.
Committal services will follow at Zapata County Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Texas Children’s Home in Beeville or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
