Verna Mae Devorce, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a stay at the Mitchell County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, June 6, 2019.
She was born on June 9, 1932 in Jacksonville, Texas to the late Henry and Jeffie Carpenter Scott. Verna Mae was a woman who enjoyed a modest life praising her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and enjoying her family. She had attended many different churches in her life before settling down as a longtime member of the House of Hope in Colorado City. She was strong and steadfast in her Christian beliefs, and she raised her children up the same. She didn’t believe in holding onto material things and if she had something you needed she would gladly give it to you. Verna Mae raised her 4 children in Colorado City, teaching them each valuable life-lessons. In her spare time she enjoyed going to church and singing in the choir, and she enjoyed shelling peas and pecans, as they kept her hands busy and relaxed her mind.
